I think I’ve found my go-to cafe for lunch near the Higher School of Economics classroom building on Staraya Basmannaya. Apparently, it’s also the go-to place for many other local business people. When we arrived around 1pm, we almost didn’t get a table. Luckily, when the food came out, we were able to snag one for the three of us.

For 275 rubles – 400, they offer a business lunch where you can pick from a combination of soups, salads, a main course, and drinks. The handful of options for each are likely to change, but to give you an idea of what’s on offer: Salads included chicken and feta cheese, vegetable salad, and various others. Main courses included chicken breast with yogurt and vegetables, beef stroganoff and potato puree, and salmon. For drinks, we chose between coffee, juice, or tea.

I picked the combo with a salad, main course, and drink. I ordered the vegetable salad, beef stroganoff, and a cappuccino. They were all pretty good. I liked the beef stroganoff and potato puree a lot. The salad was decent, but I wasn’t a fan of the mayonnaise-y sauce they seem to put on many salads here. The cappuccino was really good. It came in a to-go cup which was great for bringing back to class. My lunch mate ordered a salmon dish with rice which she said was quite tasty.

On the way out, we bought some Portuguese egg tarts. As someone who has had Portuguese egg tarts in Portugal, I thought these were fantastic. They also cost less than 60 rubles.

If you’re a coffee connoisseur, OMG Coffee! also offers coffee made from an Aeropress, in a pour over style, from a siphon, and from a Chemex. There’s also beer and wine offered here.

Overall the consensus was that OMG! Coffee was great. The food was really good; it won’t stuff you, but it’s just enough to make you not hungry anymore. I will definitely be back here. You cant beat the price, and the atmosphere was great.

For groups and faculty-led tours, this cafe can possibly host 12-20 people during off-peak hours. However, without the business lunch deal, OMG! Coffee is on the expensive side. It also will not provide a cultural experience.
